That Was Fast

Barack Obama was just elected President on Tuesday (some states are still counting ballots) and the Afghan president, Hamid Karzai is already calling on him to end civilian deaths in Afghanistan. Obama should tell him to fuck off. Give us the people we need and we'll stop air raiding your villages because this is a war and not some goddamn-feel-good-Kumbaya jam.

But of course Obama can't do that because there is this sound bite out there where Obama implies that civilian deaths in Afghanistan are "an enormous problem." And Obama is the candidate of change and unity so telling the leader of a country that has harbored, or is currently harboring, terrorists to fuck off would be divisive and probably a bit too much like the "last eight years."

In other words: it would undermine Obama's whole campaign platform. This is a test and I wonder what his decision will be. The world is surely watching.

I was asking Mr Hyphen the other day who is going to keep track of Obama and his Promises... and IF he keeps any or if each tax hike will be swept under the rug and nobody will notice until it's tax season. I'd missed this latest Foreign Policy issue. GREAT. Can't wait to see how it plays out.
